Your Farm and You

While we continue to work tirelessly on Summertale, including the upcoming Steam page and the free demo release soon after it, I'd like to use this week's post to talk a little more in detail about the Farming and Building aspects of the game, all of which you'll already be able to do in the demo.

The Farming Loop

Growing crops in Summertale encompasses many different systems. Alongside the typical mechanics you already know from the genre, like seasonal crops, invasive weeds, etc... The game also features things like:

• Dynamic weather that affects your plants (for better or worse), where every in-game hour could bring a shift in weather.

• Pests, rodents, and insects that can ruin your crops if you aren't careful.

• Different types and qualities of soil which you can inspect and improve with different fertilizers and other reagents to maximize your crop yield and quality (Some of which you'll get from the critters that live on your farm or out in the wilds).

• Rare and elusive giant crops that come with large bonuses if you're lucky enough to grow them.

• Daily and weekly requests for specific crops, materials, and foods from the different residents of the town.

• Alternative ways to finish certain requests, for example, hunting for a similar material in the wild for someone who's more combat-inclined, or getting an alternative material from your farm animals that serves the same purpose.

Building Your Homestead

We've made a construction system for Summertale where you can upgrade and redesign your house with new rooms, and arrange them any way you'd like to make it uniquely yours, as well as placing other structures, machines, and roads anywhere you want on your farmland, designing and arranging your homestead exactly how you want it.

To do these renovations, you'll need to visit Elowen the builder, who will tell you exactly what materials she needs to do the work. After you've gathered what she asks for, she will come to your farm and start building.

We also have a decoration system where you can place decor wherever you want, inside your home and out on your farm, with plenty of different decorations to choose from. We can't wait to see what you build!
